I can’t believe this. Pepsi lost a suit case merely due to a secretary that has forgot to forward a letter because she “was so busy preparing for a board meeting she did not deliver it to anyone”. Maybe this will serve as a reminder to bosses never to overload their staff with too much work else you will be making a bigger lost. Perhaps I should show this to the guy at the top… LOL!
But I like how Anonymous Lawyer worded his comment in a sarcastic manner about this case:
I don't know what PepsiCo was thinking having a secretary responsible for something. Everyone knows secretaries are only good for bringing in food and taking up space in the cubicles. And sometimes having affairs with, but only when extremely desperate and all of the associates are busy stamping numbers on papers and sorting things in the right order.
Company should also look into NOT overworking their staff. No one should ever pay for such an expensive mistake. Note to self, make sure I read through each and every mail that comes to my mail box from now on.
What's your most expensive mistake so far?

Oh what a good Sunday. Never felt this good spending time by myself for a long time already. I woke up early today and have been having an angel and demon fights in me, whether I should step out of my house or not. I know the moment I step out, I will be splurging. It was difficult. Then I went back to sleep (again) and woke up, check out FB. Then saw a friend’s status glorifying her shopping experience in the GSS 2009 and that was the deal breaker for me (ugh! The evil of FB).
I spent the rest of the day shopping and lucky for me while I was out a friend who is nearby volunteered to company me. He helped me with my bags so that I can concentrate on my shopping. Very nice of him and because of that I did a serious damage to my CC statement. I think if I had to lug around town with those bags, I would have given up long time ago and head home after my second purchase of shopping bags. Anyway he left me with all the bags towards the end but that didn’t stop me to hop over to Paragon to make my last purchase at A|X. Due to the massive amount of bags I was holding on, in the end I couldn’t hold on anymore and I took a cab home. But I was smiling from ear to ear in the cab knowing that I had a good time shopping.

The weather today is awfully hot but that doesn’t stop me from making my way to Penang. The land of my favourite CKT, after my last trip here, I’ve been missing it. Actually there is a stall in my hometown, Kluang with very good CKT too. But the one here, I have very good memories of it partly because I came here with a group of good friends and Ron. We had lots of fun while here but this time round I came with my parents (and Ron too!). After my previous trip here, I was determined to bring my dad here as he is also a fan of good CKT like me, like father, like daughter. Penang is now a place where I have lots of good memories now.
We arrived here at about midday today but we didn’t venture around much other than having dinner at Restaurant 77 that’s along Gurney Drive for the famous curry fish head. Then took some picture with my parents along the coastline while waiting for food to be serve.
I’m feeling very happy and contented today because finally I manage to accomplish my personal goal that is to bring my parents out for a trip but this also means they have to be separated from my cute niece (this trip is their first time they are away from her for more than 24 hours since she were born). Although this is just a local trip but it is still a personal milestone for me but I know all this won’t have happened without Ron, so I really want to thank him for this and for being such an understanding boyfriend. I know how some boyfriends can be very dreadful when they have to go out with their girlfriend’s parents.
It’s getting late and I should get some sleep for my food adventure tomorrow (and pray hard that I my cholesterol and sugar level won’t climb higher than before).

It even got the top position in The Sunday Times' top 10 ramen but this is in 2006. Not sure if the results remains the same after 3 years because I quite like Men Tei's ramen but I don't see it listed here, yes I maybe a tad bias. (To HL & SY: I think we should have our weekly eat out based on this top 10 list here!)Some reviews by others that I checked out:
The Local King
HungryGoWhere
The Traveling Hungryboy
Epicurative
The broth of this ramen is thick and flavourful. I’m not a meat person and usually refrain from ordering meat because I dislike the taste / smell of pork. When I ordered this dish, I made a gamble hoping that the pork they served won’t have the taste/smell. Turn out the soup does have a bit of the pork aftertaste but subtle. So that’s good enough for me. As for the noodle, it’s not soft / soggy neither is it bouncy. They claim that the noodle is made from flour that arrived from Hokkaido. I’m not sure if they’re referring to all noodle or just certain noodle, anyway I can’t tell the difference either.
For the cakes, they used very fresh cream to do it, so the taste is light and fluffy. I like the cakes here but I think it's not hard to find these cakes at a cheaper price elsewhere in Singapore. But greedy me, I couldn't resist not having a second piece.
Also made from fresh cream and the chiffon has some bits of Azuki in it, giving it some texture when eating it. But since this is also made from Chiffon cake, I still think the price for this cake is a little overprice.
Overall the food there is good, albeit pricey. We will still go back there again but perhaps to give other dishes a try such as sushi and other assortments of ramen.

Last week, I was at a colleague’s place and saw a radio in the bathroom and I thought to myself, maybe I should get a small radio in my room so that I can listen to it even when I’m in the bathroom. But I did not set myself to search for it immediately. It was more like if I see it then I buy it kind of attitude.
Today I met up with some friends and one of them had just come back from London. He brought gift for everyone and I was overjoyed when I saw that he bought me not just a projection clock but also one with a radio function. This clock features a black and white case with bright orange-on-black display. It’s killing 2 birds with one stone.
From tonight on, I will never miss my time again when I roll over to check for time. I’m a proud owner of a projection clock radio. It’s good that I can now set 2-alarm time, one to wake up and another to sleep (yes, I set alarm to remind myself to sleep at night). But ultimately the one thing that will keep me awake tonight will be beaming my time to the ceiling, pretending I really need to know the time.
The people in Gotham City beam to get help from the Batman, I beam to check my time.
Thanks AV.

Anyway, I had initially wanted to save this box of dessert for my mum but I was curious what's inside the box. The packaging does not give me any clue about the content other than knowing it's some nice dessert, from what my friend said. So I googled it and I think that was a mistake because after that I opened up and ate 2 of it and that's all happening at 10:30pm, way past my no food after 7pm rule!
The words on the packaging is written:
The spirit of OKASHI. It is what gives a peaceful and pleasant mind to the human race. All the time, man seeks romance in the OKASHI. We have been working hard and carefully, and work on. To weave the romance and fancy into each OKASHI. This, at last, we have made up "The HAKATA SEIYO-WAGASHI." If you taste the feeling and the spirit of the OKASHI which value tradition and living in the times, there is no pleasure better than it.
Honestly, I have no idea what they are trying to say. To me, the Japs are better known for their "amusingly" incorrect English. Perhaps some kind soul out there can enlighten me on this. Note the sentence, "there is no pleasure better than it", that sounds a little deluded.
This is a box of very delicious dessert. The filling consist of some yummy white bean jam and has a velvety texture. The skin and the filling are both soft and luscious. Thinking about it now, I think I still have the taste lingering around my taste bud. So back to why I think this thing fascinating to me? What makes me break the 7pm rule?
The individually wrapped biscuit has an air activated self heating function in it. You will find a small little white packet sticking on the inner side of the plastic packaging. It is called hokkairo, it's a small pouch containing iron, water, cellulose, vermiculite, activated carbon and salt. When the plastic wrap is open, the pouch will be exposed to oxygen in the air. The oxygen and the iron will form Iron Oxide (rust, eeks!) but as the rusting process takes quite a while to take place, so salt is added to act as catalyst to fasten the process. More information about this can be found here - Link
I took the liberty to open up the pouch to check the content. The heat generated is not v hot, it is just warm but not warm enough to make the whole dessert warm. Perhaps it's just a feeling thing, holding a packet of warm dessert on hand. So, the conclusion is even though the dessert is good but the one that fascinated me more is this self heating pouch than dessert. In the end, without realising it, I am only left with one now in the box.
From my googled result, I also learnt that this dessert has won numerous of awards. Although I am not sure what are the awards about but I guess it must be something good. There is also an online website where you can purchase this, sadly everything is in Japanese words and my limited Japanese words recognition can’t get me very far to buy it online. So, if anyone that is going to Kyushu again, this is definitely one thing that I will advice you guys to buy.
Note: Thanks (again) KK!

A friend from Japan brought me gift, 3 different types of ramen from different part of the Kyushu region and a box of Hakata Torimon. I’ve always been fascinated with things from Japan because I know something inside the packaging will fascinate me.
Eager, I was. When I reached home after work, I immediately cooked one of the ramen for my dinner. Have I ever mention to anyone that I like to eat ramen too?
Something about my brain, I’m almost always attracted to anything red. So my first choice of ramen to cook is this. That wasn’t a tough decision to make. Since the packaging of the noodles looks equally the same to me and I don’t have a food expert telling me which is the better ones, I guess the colour of the packaging will decide for me. Initially I thought that the red packaging also means spicy flavour then I read the kanji carefully only, it’s actually black sesame ramen or at least that’s how I interpret the katakana and kanji on the packaging. The packaging indicates that this ramen flavour originates from Kumamoto prefecture.
Oh then not to forget the little cakes in the yellow box. That's another fascinating box of dessert for another post. Thanks KK! ;-)

I’m back in Singapore today. I just want to take this moment of silent that I’m experiencing now to put down my thoughts and hope that this will be a personal reminder to myself of this important person in my life.
Last Wednesday, I experienced a death in my family. Something that shook me from my daily life telling me that I should start to care and think about the people around me. My grandmother passed away at the age of 80, quite unexpectedly. It all happened too fast and she slipped away from us while we are all still busy with our life. She spent the last few years of her life on the bed. There are many regrets in my life and not being there during those last few hours is one of them.
Thinking back, I remembered I used to stay over with po po over the weekends. She used to bring me along with her to places where she used to help to do housekeeping. After coming back from doing housekeeping work, that will normally be afternoon already, we will have teatime at home. That’s when I learnt that dipping cookies into my tea makes it tastier to eat. She always kept her cookies at the top of her shelf and I always know where to find my favorite cookies.
Grandmother is a woman that abides to all customary rules. She always taught me that a girl should never lift their legs on the chair and their hair should always be in place, she frowns at people with messy hairstyle. I remember once I forgot to comb my hair after bathing, she scolded me “teng nga yu”, I laughed at it because I thought it was funny at that time thinking it back now, it only bring tears to my eyes.
I also remember how she used to mark on those huge Chinese calendar, the birthdays of all her children and grandchildren. One of the presents I received from her is this little pink egg basket with 2 little white chicks in it and when you shake it the little chickens will make some sound. Now, I don’t even know whether I will still be able to find the toy again.
Walking behind her coffin to send her off through the last part of her life, I cried the hardest. All those memories of her I have accumulated during my childhood days came flooding my memories during that time. The walk we used to walk together came to my mind so vividly. I won’t be able to see the person that used to care for me anymore, the person that taught me to dip cookies into my tea.
I miss you so much, po po…

Margaret’s Café e Nata (瑪嘉烈餅店)
The next day after my 2nd visit to the stall that is also my last morning in Macau, Ron and I headed there again for our second round of egg tart (also eating 3 egg tart each). We really enjoyed the egg tart very much. I heard there is another famous egg tart shop by the name Lord Stow’s but unfortunately I didn’t have time to try that and it’s on another island in Macau. Apparently this 2 shop owners used to be husband and wife. After the divorce, that did not end up amicably, the wife opened her own shop.
Getting there:
From Grand Lisboa main entrance, stand at the position where the casino is behind you and you’re facing the road, turn right and keep walking along the road until you come to a road with a traffic light. Look out for an alley directly opposite where you are standing; you should be able to see a sign pointing in the direction of the café. That’s the café that you should head to for that oh-so-delicious egg tart.
I’m a dessert loving person. When in buffet, I’m always the first person from my table to breeze through main course and dive to the dessert...
Hou Zai Meen (Little Oyster Noodle)
Getting there:
The shop is at a corner that is diagonally opposite the huge Goddess of Mercy statue on the Macau city island. The statue is a tourist spot in Macau, so you shouldn’t miss it. The nearest casino to this shop is perhaps MGM Grand. So spot for the casino then the Goddess of Mercy, you should be able to find the shop that sells this noodle. Otherwise, just hop on a cab and asked them to drive you to the statue.
